He is currently Vice Chair for Research and an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. In 2009, he became the first orthopaedic surgeon to be granted a Tenure appointment at Columbia University.

Dr. Lee specializes in bone tumors, soft tissue sarcomas, metastatic bone cancers, spine tumors, as well as complex pediatric orthopedic surgery for developmental orthopedic disorders, limb lengthening and deformity correction. Dr. Lee and his clinical team provide excellent clinical care for complex orthopaedic diseases using state-of-the art technology including CT-guided radiofrequency ablation.

Dr. Lee serves as the Chief of the Tumor & Bone Disease service and is the Director of the Center for Orthopedic Research. He conducts both translational and clinical studies on musculoskeletal disorders. He is a recipient of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons / Orthopaedic Research Education and Foundation Clinician Scientist Traveling Fellowship Award and the AAOS Leadership Fellowship. He has been actively involved in professional committees for the AAOS, Orthopaedic Research Society, Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, NIH, AAOS Clinician Scientist Development Program and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Question Writing Task Force. He is currently conducting translational research on inflammatory pathways in bone cancer, implant-host implant interface biology, mechanotransduction and tissue engineering. He is one of a handful of orthopaedic surgeons with two National Institute of Health (NIH) R01 Research Grants.  He is an active participant in the peer review process for NIH and scientific journals. He is an effective mentor for medical students, residents, PhD candidates and fellows in the field of musculoskeletal research.
