New Faculty Join Columbia Orthopedics

Five surgeons added to Columbia Orthopedics team

INTRODUCING THE NEWEST MEMBERS OF THE COLUMBIA ORTHOPEDICS FACULTY

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is pleased to welcome five new faculty members to the team. Together, these impressive surgeons will help us deliver the highest level of care to patients in and out of the tri-state region.

Each of the new recruits brings extensive training and experience, which will help Columbia Orthopedics continue our longstanding commitment to delivering the best possible patient care.

Kathryn Fideler, MD
Columbia University’s Division of Orthopedics
at Mount Sinai Medical Center Miami

Dr. Fideler joined the department in August as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and member of the hip and knee reconstruction service at Columbia Orthopedics at Mount Sinai Medical Center Miami, the only Ivy League-affiliated orthopedics program in South Florida. She has a special interest in outpatient hip and knee replacements, specifically in techniques reducing recovery time and maximizing patient outcomes.

Originally from Fontana, WI, Dr. Fideler received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University, a Master of Public Health from Columbia University, and her Medical Degree from Chicago Medical School. After finishing her orthopedic surgery residency training at The Ohio State University in 2022, she went on to complete an adult total joint reconstruction fellowship at the Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Virginia.

Dr. Fideler is active in academic research, having coauthored articles on total hip and knee arthroplasty and fractures of the hand and elbow in such publications as Orthopedics Today, Techniques in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, and Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and TraumaI (JCOT). Her current projects include research into prosthetic joint infections and total hip arthroplasty.

SEPTEMBER ADDITIONS

Nicholas Danford, MD
NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital

Dr. Danford joins the department as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and a member of the trauma program for children, adolescents, and adults. He will see patients at NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Danford earned his undergraduate degrees from Dartmouth College and Boston University and medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. After finishing his orthopedic surgery residency training at CUIMC in 2022, he went on to complete a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Dr. Danford is active in academic research, having presented at a number of meetings across the country and coauthored several articles in such publications as Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma, and Global Spine Journal.

Conor Brendan Garry, MD
NYP-Hudson Valley Hospital

Dr. Conor Garry

Dr. Garry joins the department as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and a member of the hip and knee reconstruction service. He specializes in the operative and nonoperative treatment of the hip and knee in patients of all ages.

Dr. Garry received his undergraduate degrees from Tufts University and the University of Maryland and medical degree from Georgetown University. After finishing his orthopedic surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center in 2017, he went on to complete an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and an adult reconstruction fellowship at New York University Langone Medical Center.

In addition, Dr. Garry has held posts as an orthopedic surgeon at both the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and as an assistant professor of military medicine and orthopedic surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Maryland. He was also a naval flight officer in the U.S. Navy.

Dr. Garry is active in academic research, having coauthored articles in a variety of publications, including Military Medicine, British Medical Journals Case Reports, and Indian Spine Journal.

Mark T. Langhans, MD, PhD
NYP-Hudson Valley Hospital

Dr. Langhans joins the department as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and a member of the adult reconstruction/general orthopedic surgery service at NYP-Hudson Valley Hospital. He specializes in the operative and nonoperative treatment of adult athletes of all skill levels.

Dr. Langhans received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and PhD in molecular genetics and developmental biology and medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After finishing his orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in 2022, he went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Dr. Langhans is active in academic research, having coauthored several articles in such publications as the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, Current Issues in Molecular Biology, and the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.

OCTOBER ADDITION

Karan Dua, MD
Columbia University Irving Medical Center

Dr. Dua joins the department as an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and a member of the hand and upper extremity service at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He specializes in the operative and nonoperative treatment of all structures affecting the form and function of the hand and wrist in patients of all ages.

Dr. Dua earned his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College and medical degree from Stony Brook University, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at Downstate Medical Center in 2021. He went on to complete a hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery fellowship at Chicago’s Rush University Medical Center and a shoulder and elbow surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Dua is active in academic research, having completed a research fellowship in pediatric hand and upper extremity trauma surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, in Baltimore. He has coauthored a number of articles with a special interest in hand and wrist biomechanics in such publications as the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopedics, and Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics.
