The healing began at 3am when the elevator doors opened in NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and 5 oh-so-young faces announced, "We're Dr. Jobin's team." Suddenly I knew I was going to be okay.
13 hours earlier, while walking my horse, I had fallen down an icy hill 75 blizzard-blowing miles away in Sussex, N.J. The nearest hospital was not prepared to take on an 82-year old lady with a shattered-to-dust RIGHT (oh, no)! elbow. Fortunately, Dr. Jobin was.
After a thorough examination to establish that I was healthy enough to withstand the stress of an elbow implant operation, and determined and disciplined enough to accept the demands of a 9 to 12 month rehab recovery program, Dr. Jobin gave me a new stainless steel elbow. And my active, independent life back.
I am 84 now. No longer riding my horse of playing tennis, but still a working actress, enjoying living alone in my own home with my new elbow. Pain free, with all the action of my old elbow. Juggling my cats' 10-lb. cat litter bags and...final triumph: putiing on earrings!
Dr. Jobin had to move my funny bone around a little to accommodate my new elbow, but he was careful to leave my sense of humor.
