All applicants will be notified of their status via e-mail typically 2 weeks following release of the Dean’s letter. Selected candidates will be invited for personal interviews. A social gathering in New York City will be arranged for Saturday, January 8, 2011 so that you will have an opportunity to meet with our residents. Interviews will be scheduled on Sunday, January 9, 2011. During the interview day, you will meet the Chairman, Program Director, Faculty physicians, and residents. Each applicant for the 5-year track will have 3 interviews – 2 with a panel of 4 faculty members and 1 with the Chief Residents.
We will be matching 5 residents (as per usual) in the 5-year residency track this year. We will also be matching 1 interested student (also as we have done for the past 16 years) into the Trauma Training Center – a 6-year track in which the student immediately enters the TTC laboratory straight out of medical school. The TTC fellow from the prior year then joins the incoming 5 students to make up the requisite number of 6 interns.
What is new this year, however, is that we will be matching a resident into the Center for Orthopaedic Research (COR) for a 6-year track. Under the guidance of Dr. Francis Y. Lee, the COR team advances novel concepts through translational studies that bridge basic science and clinical practice. Bimolecular and biomechanical engineering principles, 3D computer modeling, molecular imaging, in vivo studies and surgical expertise coalesce to foster improved patient outcomes. The student who matches in the COR 6-year track will complete his or her research year first (just like the TTC fellow) and then both 6-year residents will begin their internship in 2012 where they will be joined by 4 students who match in the 5-year track that year.
It should be noted that all 3 pathways have a separate NRMP # so if interested you can apply for the 5-year position, the 6-year TTC position, AND the 6-year COR position (or any combination therein).
