Columbia Orthopedics Providers Participate in Sidelines CME Course
Columbia Orthopedics' 5th annual “Current Concepts in Football Sideline Management” continuing medical education course took place on Tuesday, June 11th, at the Campbell Sports Center. Course directors, Thomas Bottiglieri, DO and Charles Popkin, MD, led a program providing certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, emergency medical providers and physicians with an overview of football sideline medicine. The course included a comprehensive review of cutting-edge concepts and techniques for managing football athletes on the sidelines.
A major highlight of the event was the keynote speech by retired NFL player Mitch Marrow, titled “An NFL Player’s Experience and Perspective: When Should Your Son Lace Up the Pads.” In addition to lecture sessions on “Common, but Controversial Sideline Decisions” as well as handling “Head, Neck & Vital Organs” injuries, the course also included hands-on learning sessions designed to teach participants how to handle on-field medical emergencies.
