Dr. Charles A. Popkin Promoted to Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery
Columbia Orthopedics is thrilled to announce that Dr. Charles A. Popkin, in recognition of efforts and achievements as a clinician and researcher in the field of orthopedics, has been promoted to associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons.
"I have felt blessed since getting the phone call from Dr. Bigliani to join the faculty at Columbia. The mentorship I have received from Chris Ahmad, Bill Levine, and Michael Vitale has been instrumental," said Dr. Popkin. "I also feel like I have the best team in the medical center with Will Campos, Jen Crotty and Kyra Busque. It’s been a great ride and I look forward to continuing my commitment to treat and care for youth sports injuries, complex knee injuries and injuries that arise from ice hockey."
Dr. Popkin specializes in pediatric, adolescent, and collegiate sports medicine, with a focus on operative and non-operative treatment for complex knee disorders. He dedicated his career to the comprehensive treatment and prevention of injury in developing athletes and has a particular interest in the management of ice hockey injuries. Dr. Popkin serves as a team physician for USA Hockey and is a member of the USA Hockey National Safety and Protective Equipment Committee. He also serves as the head team physician for Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY and the Hackley School in Tarrytown, NY.
In addition to his academic practice, Dr. Popkin conducts research on ACL injury prevention, ACL reconstruction techniques in the pediatric athlete, overuse injuries in youth sports, refractory patellar tendonitis, and shoulder instability in ice hockey.
