Emily Weidenbaum, Daughter of Dr. Weidenbaum, Graduates VP&S
Congratulations to Emily Weidenbaum, the daughter of Columbia Orthopedics Vice Chairman of Clinical Affairs and spine surgeon Mark Weidenbaum, MD, member of the Vagelos College of Physicians of Surgeons Class of 2018! The Weidenbaum family has attended Columbia for several generations – her grandparents earned PhDs at Columbia College and her father graduated from the then College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1981. She decided to become a doctor after she taught pre-K and became interested in childhood development.
“I loved working with health care professionals and students’ families using educational theater techniques,” she said. “I became fascinated with the family unit, specifically the mother and child relationship, and began to develop a passion for women’s health.”
At VP&S, she was Honor Code chair and volunteered as a “cuddler” in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. She was also involved in research projects on administering antibiotics to neonates with sepsis and created and analyzed a database for placenta accreta.
She matched at an OB/GYN residency at New York University Langone Medical Center and will begin this summer. Her journey to earning her MD was featured with the profiles of select members of the VP&S Class of 2018. Read the feature here.
