Keeping Refs Safe on the Ice

While there's no lack of information on player injuries, Dr. Charles A. Popkin and colleagues discovered a lack of published literature examining injuries to the officials. Undaunted, the physicians conducted a study through the Columbia University Center for Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Medicine examining injuries reported by officials of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) . Now, in the latest edition of USA Hockey Magazine, Dr. Popkin reports on the study originally published in The Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine.

In addition, Dr. Popkin has a new, regular column in USA Hockey Magazine. "Ask Dr. Hockey" launched in the January/February 2023 edition of the magazine.
