Trauma Training Center

The Trauma Training Center (TTC) was founded in 1992 by Melvin P. Rosenwasser, MD, and Professor Robert J. Pawluk for graduate and post-graduate orthopedic trauma education. Physicians from around the world come to our center where they learn principles and techniques from our trauma specialists. The TTC also serves as the primary research laboratory for orthopedic trauma, hand, and upper extremity surgery. The laboratory has been enormously successful at conducting prospective and retrospective clinical studies, as well as small animal investigations and biomechanical basic science research, with the goal of discovering new surgical techniques to optimize outcomes for injured patients.

The state-of-the-art TTC is located in the 19,000 square-foot Anne Youle Stein Center for Orthopedic Education and Research at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The lab’s core activities are organized around three areas:

• Research Facility - Serves as a full-time research laboratory staffed with a post-doctoral research fellow, research assistants, visiting international orthopedic surgeons, and medical students. All resources are provided to plan, conduct, and present ongoing clinical and basic science research studies.
• Bioskills Laboratory: - Equipped for the development of experimental models for fracture research and three-dimensional fracture graphics, and the use of saw-bone and postoperative planning, analysis, and evaluation. It is equipped with a wide range of internal and external fixation instruments and devices for resident and surgeon training.
• Trauma Database & Multi-media: - We maintain a comprehensive research-oriented upper extremity and trauma database, and have capabilities that include a mini C-arm fluoroscopy imager that can digitally export images as well as video, digital video cameras, multimedia editing software, and dedicated IT personnel.
