Dr. Christopher Ahmad Receives Doctors of Distinction's Cutting-Edge Award
Columbia Orthopedics Chief of Sports Medicine Christopher S. Ahmad, MD received the Cutting Edge Award at the sixth annual Westchester Doctors of Distinction Awards Ceremony. Doctors of Distinction highlights the achievements of providers, medical teams, and centers that practice within Westchester County. The annual award recognizes health care leaders for their dedication and commitment to medicine. The award ceremony, held by Westfair Communications Inc, took place on Tuesday, September 24th at the Surf Club on the Sound in New Rochelle, NY. A total of 14 Doctors of Distinction Awards were presented at the event. Awardees were nominated by the public and selected by a panel of providers and scholars from the area.
Dr. Ahmad's ongoing research in throwing-related injury prevention and treatment, ACL injury prevention and screening, biomechanics of the elbow, surgical techniques for rotator cuff repair as well as shoulder instability, made him the top candidate for the award.
“The starting pitcher for the New York Yankees tonight is Jordan Montgomery. Sixteen months ago Jordan Montgomery walked off the mound holding his elbow and he tore his ligament," Dr. Ahmad told attendees. "As the team physician for the New York Yankees, I had the privilege to take care of him...and was able to perform surgery that rebuilt his ligament, and in about 10 minutes he’s going to be a starting pitcher for the New York Yankees in tonight’s contest against the Tampa Bay Rays.”
