Dr. Louis U. Bigliani, former chair of Columbia Orthopedics, 1998-2014

In recognition of his distinguished career and impact on the field of shoulder surgery, the Louis U. Bigliani Lectureship was established and endowed by the members of the Columbia Shoulder Society in 2018. Protégé to Dr. Charles S. Neer II, the father of modern shoulder surgery, Dr. Louis Bigliani spent his entire career at NYOH/Columbia, eventually serving as the 9th Director of the New York Orthopaedic Hospital and Chair of Columbia University’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery from 1998 - 2014. Beginning in 2018, the lecture is to be given at each biennial meeting of the NYOH Alumni Association by a visiting professor prominent in the field of shoulder surgery.
