The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons has earned a reputation as one of the leading academic orthopedic departments in the  nation. Our rich tradition in Orthopedic Surgery dates back to 1866 when the New York Orthopaedic Dispensar, later renamed the New York Orthopaedic Hospital, opened. Since then, the department has grown into a preeminent center for quality patient care, education and research.

Hand & Upper Extremity

Hip & Knee

  • Connor Gary, MD

    • Assistant Professor

    Dr. Garry is a member of the hip and knee reconstruction service. He specializes in the operative and nonoperative treatment of the hip and knee in patients of all ages.

    Dr. Garry received his undergraduate degrees from Tufts University and the University of Maryland and medical degree from Georgetown University. After finishing his orthopedic surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center in 2017, he went on to complete an orthopedic trauma fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and an adult reconstruction fellowship at New York University Langone Medical Center.

    In addition, Dr. Garry has held posts as an orthopedic surgeon at both the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and as an assistant professor of military medicine and orthopedic surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Maryland. He was also a naval flight officer in the U.S. Navy.

    Dr. Garry is active in academic research, having coauthored articles in a variety of publications, including Military Medicine, British Medical Journals Case Reports, and Indian Spine Journal

  • Mark T. Langhans, MD, PhD

    • Assistant Professor

    Dr. Langhans is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and a member of the member of the sports medicine and orthopedic surgery service at NYP-Hudson Valley Hospital. He specializes in the operative and nonoperative treatment of adult athletes of all skill levels. He has a special interest in hip arthroscopy and joint preservation. Dr. Langhans received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and PhD in molecular genetics and developmental biology and medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After finishing his orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in 2022, he went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Langhans is active in academic research, having authored several articles in such publications as the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Current Stem Cell Research & Therapies, and the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery.
